What are Common Types of Scars?

Laser Treatment Cottonwood Heights, UTWhen it comes to perfecting your Halloween costume, you may go all out— whether that means wearing an elaborate wig, getting your face professionally painted, or even adding scars to your face! Although the Halloween festivities can last the entire month of October— especially if you have kids— you only want to have a perfectly imperfect complexion for that one part of the year.

If you have scars caused by acne, burns, or any other injury to the skin, we at Form Medical Spa can work to correct them with a variety of treatments including laser and more. Depending on the type of scars that you have, our skin care professionals will help determine the best treatment method for you. So, what are common types of scars?

Keloid Scars

Take a close look at your scar(s). Do they look firm and rubbery? If so, they are likely keloid scars, which are caused by an overgrowth of granulation tissue in the skin.

Hypertrophic Scars

Hypertrophic scars are one of the most common forms of scarring. Although they look similar to keloid scars, hypertrophic scars are caused when there is too much collagen in the skin, giving it a raised appearance.

Contracture Scars

This is the type of scarring that occurs when you get a second or third-degree burn. After your skin has been burned, the surrounding skin tries to pull together to cover it up which results in this type of scarring.

Stretch Marks

You may not look at your stretch marks as a type of scarring— because it’s not like your baby or weight loss burned you— but they are. Stretch marks form when your skin is stretched at such a fast rate that your body can’t produce enough collagen to keep up with it.

If your scars make you feel self-conscious, we at Form Medical Spa can help. Schedule your consultation with our Cottonwood office today!
